acupuncture

Evidence-based, research supported acupuncture and trigger point therapy to improve pain, promote healing, and help get you back to doing what you love.

Acupuncture can be a powerful tool to improve a wide range of conditions without surgery or medications. However, not all acupuncture treatment is the same. There are some common problems in the acupuncture industry:

  • Lack of assessment and reassessment to guide treatment

  • Overstating or misrepresenting the science of what acupuncture can (and cannot) do

  • No integration with movement and exercise

At EVOLVE, you will experience a different type of acupuncture care. Like all of EVOLVE’s services, our acupuncture team is focused on getting to the root cause of your symptoms and resolving your issue, for good. We only use evidence-based, research supported acupuncture techniques, and help you to understand what factors, such as movement or exercise, will deliver long term progress outside of the acupuncture treatment room. You can read more about evidence-based acupuncture by clicking here.

Our acupuncture also collaborates with our physical therapy and dietitian team, and when appropriate we work as a comprehensive team so that you see long lasting results as fast as possible.

What can acupuncture help with?

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Symptomatic muscular trigger points

  • Acute and chronic pain

  • Lower back pain

  • Neck pain

  • Nerve-related pain

  • Stress, anxiety, and insomnia

  • Join pain and stiff joints

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Acupuncture is the insertion of thin, filiform needles into acupuncture points. By stimulating these points, we can get deeper into muscles than pressure alone, reduce inflammation, increase circulation, increase range of motion, and ease pain.

  • Acupuncture is extremely safe. We use only sterile, single use needles. There are relatively few possible side effects, which are typically limited to minor bruising, soreness, or slight bleeding at the needle insertion sites.

  • You can start with either acupuncture or physical therapy and see amazing results. Acupuncture can be a great place to start if you need short-term pain relief in order to get moving, and/or if you have plateaued with a comprehensive physical therapy plan.

  • The consensus from medical research shows that receiving treatment twice a week for 4-6 treatments yields the best results. Many patients also see relief with acupuncture treatment once a week with the same 4-6 treatment range.

  • We see the best long term results when patients combine acupuncture and physical therapy.

Acupuncture can help to reduce pain and inflammation, improve range of motion, change muscular activation strategies, and promote healing.

However, some patients see regression if they do not make any changes outside of the acupuncture session. Most types of orthopedic pain and injury have their basis in how we move, and so they need a movement-based long term solution. That’s where physical therapy comes in. We can build on the progress you make with acupuncture by examining how you move, and developing an appropriate movement, strength, and endurance program to keep you as resilient as possible, for life.

Using acupuncture with other medical treatments has aided in the reduction pain from a pinched nerve. With the help of acupuncture I have been able to decrease my pain medication and I have a greater range of mobility.
